Our History

The Amity Campus is the result of a merger between Amity United Methodist Church and the Cathedral of the Rockies in May, 2013. At the time, Amity UMC was facing a reality found in many churches today--a difficulty covering expenses while also meeting all its missional goals.  As way of thinking "outside the box," leaders from Amity UMC, the Cathedral of the Rockies, and the United Methodist Church came together to create an opportunity for a merger to occur.

The Cathedral of the Rockies ‘One Church-Two Campuses’ was born as the Downtown Campus and the Amity Campus.  The Reverend Steve Tollefson, retired senior pastor from the Cathedral of the Rockies, came out of retirement to work half-time and preach at the Amity Campus for its first year. Several dedicated families also came from the Downtown Campus to jump start the new Amity Campus.  One of those families was Dick and Barbara Heaton. The Heatons loved this new church and  could see the tremendous potential it held. They were so moved by what they experienced at Amity that they donated one million dollars to build a new sanctuary at the Amity Campus.  We celebrated our grand opening of this beautiful new sanctuary on December 14, 2014.

In the years to follow, a next step would come at the Amity Campus.  The Reverend Rob Walters had heard about the amazing ministry happening here and came to the Cathedral Amity Campus from Kansas.  Pastor Rob was appointed as a full-time pastor on July 1, 2016.  Through the next several months, dedicated volunteers from the Amity Campus, Support Staff from the Cathedral, Amity Campus staff, and Pastor Debbie Coutts (Family Life Pastor) came together with funding provided by the Cathdral to complete a full-scale renovation of the Amity Campus Education Building.  This new building opened on September 11, 2016 and features a beautiful new Children's Center and theater, a dedicated youth room with games and couches, two new adult classrooms, a beautiful Fellowship Hall, kitchen, music room, office space, outdoor seating, and so much more.  It is a fantastic addition for ministry programming. Come check us out at the Amity Campus. Here's you'll experience "big church" ministry in a "smaller church" feel.
